A Quick Six from Kenny Reed!
#1. Do you remember the moment you decided to move to California? If so, where were you and what was the conversation?
I always looked at San Francisco as the best city to skate in even before I moved here. Just like any skater, I grew up studying skating from videos, and from the data I saw, SF was the place to be. I do remember when I decided to move here, I was living in Costa Rica and I used to eat at a Chinese noodle spot that had a huge poster of SF on the wall. I used to sit there, eating noodles and staring up at the poster thinking "I am going to move there".
#2. Do you remember where you were the first time you stepped on a board?
The first time I skated, I asked permission from an adult to go skate in the street in front of the house and was told "no". I did the typical kid thing and asked another adult that was there and they said "yes". Then, I got in trouble for my con. So skateboarding for me started with getting in trouble and skating in the street.
#3. What was the interview like when you first applied for a job at Highspeed Productions?
I interviewed with Ed Riggins for the job, the coolest guy ever. The one thing that sticks out was when Ed said the job was forty hours a week. My jaw dropped.
#4. What do you miss the most about living in a one bedroom with 4 or 5 friends?
I think everyone should live that way for a while. Later in life, it makes you appreciate space. What I liked most is that we all sacrificed comfort for skateboarding and we were all happy without lots of material things.
#5. When exactly did you decide to become a vegetarian and why?
I decided to become vegetarian and change my eating habits after I saw and learned more information that started with seeing the film "Super Size Me" 8 years ago. I decided to become vegan and 90% raw recently to improve my health further.
#6. What is your most memorable night at union square?
Playing games of skate with you into the bank and when the cops would storm in and we would have to ollie down all the sets of stairs on the way out.
